What is the best color for a Tesla Model Y?

The available Tesla Model Y colors are the same as the Model 3 color options and have remained unchanged since its launch. That is with the exception of the Middle East and Europe, where two new exterior colors were added in November 2022.

Tesla Model Y Colors

The Model Y comes in Tesla’s five standard exterior colors (seven if you are in Europe or the Middle East) and a choice of two interior color schemes.

The five Tesla Model Y exterior colors are:

  • Deep Blue Metallic
  • Midnight Silver Metallic
  • Pearl White Multi-Coat
  • Red Multi-Coat
  • Solid Black

In November 2022, Tesla announced two new exterior colors available exclusively to customers in Europe and the Middle East. These are:

  • Quicksilver
  • Midnight Cherry Red

The reason these two colors are exclusive to Europe and the Middle East is that they can only be painted in the paint shop of Tesla’s Giga Berlin factory, which is located in Brandenburg, Germany.

Elon Musk described Giga Berlin as having “the world’s most advanced paint shop, with more layers of stunning colors that subtly change with curvature”.

The two choices of interior colors are:

  • All black
  • Black and white

What is the best color to choose?

The “best” color for your Tesla Model Y will always depend on your own personal preference and you may simply want to go for the color that looks nicest to you.

However, if you’re struggling to choose, there are some questions you can ask yourself to help make a decision.

Are you particularly worried about scratches?

Scratches are more obvious on darker-colored cars than they are on lighter ones. This is because a scratch scrapes away the paint, revealing the grey primer beneath.

A scratch will be less obvious on a pearl white Tesla than on any other color. So, if you’re particularly keen for your Tesla to look pristine, pearl white could be the color choice for you.

Will you clean your Tesla regularly?

Scratches might not be very noticeable on a pearl white Tesla, but dirt definitely will be!

If you’re going to clean your Tesla frequently then this might not be a problem. But if you anticipate your Tesla getting dirty and not being cleaned very often, you might want to choose a darker color that hides the muck.

The Tesla Model Y color that will do the best job of hiding dirt is solid black.

Do you want to stand out?

Red cars have a reputation for being flashy. They are more noticeable and some people even claim that red cars are pulled over more frequently by police officers (though, fortunately, that is most likely a myth).

If you want to stand out from the crowd then red multi-coat is a great choice for your Tesla Model Y. But if you want to blend in then you may want to choose a different color scheme!

Do you want your Model Y to shine?

Some colors have a tendency to look brighter and shinier than others when washed and polished.

If you want your Tesla to really shine, deep blue or red are the best options.

Do you want a classy, understated look?

If you want a Model Y in a more interesting color than white or black, but without standing out as much as red or blue, then midnight silver is the choice for you.

Midnight silver is also a good all-rounder. Scratches won’t show up as much as they would on a black car, while dirt won’t show up as much as it would on a white car.

Do you want something exclusive? And are you in Europe or the Middle East?

If you are in Europe or the Middle East and you like the idea of having a Tesla Model Y in a color that not everyone can enjoy, then Quicksilver or Midnight Cherry Red are the color options for you!

These two colors are only available to customers in Europe and the Middle East, so – while you may see matching vehicles on the roads close to home – you’ll be the envy of many customers in other parts of the world who don’t have access to a Quicksilver or Midnight Cherry Red Model Y.

Which do you like best?

While it’s not a bad idea to think about scratches, or dirt, or what other people think when they see your car, those aren’t the things that really matter when choosing a color for your Tesla Model Y.

Ultimately, the best color for your Tesla is the color that you like best.

We encourage you to not overthink your color choice too much, and don’t worry about what other people think. It’s your car, so choose the color you want.
